Gallery Walk's on the 4th of July and Chuck Dodson's The Gallery@404-B presents:

Kelly Moran (Houston, TX)
"The recent works of Houston, Texas, artist Kelly Moran make strong statements about gender roles in society. Moran's unique pieces are made using a variety of printmaking techniques, including polymer photogravure, Linoleum-cut vintage wallpaper and etching. Moran has worked in a wide array of media and from 1995-97 studied indigenous textiles and ceramics in Indonesia."

"Again Moran plumbs the depths of the male psyche, both in the individual and collective sense. Her works have that rare ability of speaking to the person, the gender, and the culture at the same moment."

"Much of Kelly Moran's work digs deeply into the generational and gender issues of the American social consciousness. Surprisingly, Moran is as good at depicting the inner-workings of the male psyche as she is the female psyche."

"The act of 'carrying' appears in several of Kelly Moran's recent works. Presenting the action in a ceremonial, ritualistic way, Moran invites us to think about the passing of generations and our own individual places in the parade of history, both within our families and society at large. Though many of her recent works present the dark side of core personal and social issues, there's nonetheless a sense of celebration in Moran's art - the celebration of life itself and of the process of living."

Coleman Gocio (Hot Springs / Portland, OR)
Coleman Gocio has been away from Hot Springs the last couple of years, first living in St. Louis, Missouri, and now in Portland, Oregon. A full-time art student, Gocio is using several new processes he's learning to create innovative works. This week he debuts a new series of pieces in which blueprint techniques are used to enhance archival photography. He will also show a new painting, done on a found antique window.

"Coleman Gocio is a multi-disciplinarian, working in the realms of photography, painting, and several unique mixed-media inventions. Gocio often uses bright images of pop culture to address serious subjects and many of his paintings actually bear written statements."
